At the heart of our kennel are two exceptional breeds – the Bearded Collie and the Havanese.
Though vastly different in size, coat, and origin, they share a joyful temperament, intelligence, and devotion that make them deeply rewarding companions. Both breeds bring warmth, spirit, and personality to every home they touch.

With the preservation of the breed as a guiding principle, we’ve imported dogs over the years to strengthen genetic diversity
and maintain a healthy, sustainable gene pool, a responsibility shared by committed breeders worldwide.

Every litter is thoughtfully planned, and each puppy is carefully matched to a home where their temperament and energy will thrive best.

Nestled in the heart of Kyalami, Midrand, Gauteng, Shaggy Chic (www.shaggychic.co.za) is both our home and our business;
a place filled with love, laughter, and, of course, wagging tails. The Beardies, and more recently our Havanese, greet every visitor
with enthusiasm and their unmistakable joie de vivre!

ASHVALE BEARDED COLLIES


What began as a passion has grown into a lifelong commitment to preserving and promoting the Beardie’s unique qualities within South Africa.

Through the Ashvale name, our dogs have proudly represented the breed in the show ring, earning numerous champion titles, while others have excelled in obedience, agility, and therapy work.

Their intelligence, humour, and unmistakable zest for life make them as versatile as they are beautiful.

ASHVALE HAVANESE

With my lifelong affection for coated and shaggy breeds, the Havanese was a natural choice when selecting a smaller companion breed.

I reached out to Alistair’s Kennel in Sweden, longtime friends and trusted breeders from whom I have imported several Bearded Collies over the years, and in 2023, we welcomed Matisse, our first male Havanese.

Earlier in 2025, Maeve, our first female, arrived from Hungary.
These two delightful little characters have completely captured our hearts, and it is difficult to imagine life without them.

We are now eagerly looking forward to breeding our first Havanese litter and contributing to the growth and development of the breed and its gene pool here in South Africa.
